Cysts can last forever unfortunately. If you have one, get checked regularly – just in case!
You can usually tell a malignant lump from a cyst because the malignancy grows quickly while the cyst is relatively static.
You may be wise to have it removed if it concerns you. Speak to your doctor.

A cyst can alter size depending on where you are in the menstrual cycle, as a good many are affected by the hormones. Cysts can also form and disappear all by themselves, without any treatment at all required. There is no way to tell from a manual exam whether a lump is cancerous or benign, although cancerous tumors are sometimes more irregular in shape, and do not tend to move about. The only way to know for certain what you have is to have a needle aspiration or a lumpectomy, along with a specialty mammogram, combined with the expertise of your doctor. Cysts are very common to see in young women, and it’s rare to see cancer in the under 30 set. After that, cancer becomes more of a possibility- although cysts are still far more common. If you have a cyst, you are the best person to keep tabs on it. By doing a self exam once each month, you will detect changes long before your doctor would, and could raise the alarm to catch a problem before it got out of hand.
Any lump should be checked out by a Doctor immediately! You cannot tell for sure if a lump is cancerous or not just by feel although most cancer lumps are quite firm and hard. Go to a doctor… cysts don’t last forever. The doctor will probably want to take a needle biopsy… it doesn’t hurt and it takes little time and results come in fast! If you don’t have money for a doctor go to your local health dept. office or to a free clinic. There are also free breast cancer screening places too.. just google it… you’ll find one in your area.
But, if you do have a lump make a doctors appointment now! If it’s cancer… it is treatable and the earlier it is caught the better the chances of it not spreading throughout your body. That’s what cancer does, but if its caught early then it is unlikely that it will.
